I've listened to Jorge Bolet's performance of this several times and always found it stilted and poorly phrased. Avdeeva is incredible here; I don't think this performance could be surpassed.

Sure, the original orchetral version must be better than the Liszt "transcription". But why do I typically come back to the Liszt version? Sure, Bolet's version from Carnegy Hall is fantastic and legendary. But why do I typically come back to Yulianna's version? Explanations are complex. Sure, Yulianna has everything what is required for that piece of music. Incredible technique, stamina, control, and so on and so on.... But there is more, which I can hardly specify. I have the feeling, that I understand what she says even without words. Yulianna gives me the essence of the music even better then a big orchestra can do - for me of course, it's my personal feeling. Dear Yulianna, thanks a lot for making it possible to listen to this masterpiece under your hands, whenever I am in the mood.

Excellent display of technique. Fluidity and range. Don't like his trills though. And weird arrangement of Flight of the Bumblebee.

I know a lot of people seem to hate this, but I actually like it quite a lot. Yeah I know, it’s just a loud cacophonous mess of sloppy mistakes and the clapping wasn’t necessary. But I could actually find myself listening to this unironically just because I like songs that are extremely loud and all over the place.

Wonderful performance, just as we all expect from this man. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy such mastery. There are many great pianists, but Mr Perahia is my #1. His keybed touch, his refusal to let his own persona get in the way of the works he plays and his sometimes playful but always sensitive interpretations are sublime in the extreme.

I've come over the years to appreciate Liszt's transcriptions. Allan Walkers lecture on Liszt at the Library of Congress, 'In Defense of Transcription' is worth watching on UTube. Also I believe 1984 interview of Alan Walker by David Dubal radio program, after his first book, The Virtuoso Years, was published. Is very interesting...check it out..

Espetacular interpretação. Schiff tem um toque tao leve e claro que podemos ouvir cada nota executada individualmente, mesmo com acordes cheios. Perfeito!

Da gusto recordar en este nuevo milenio, y a pesar de tanta invasion "musical", que esta ejecucion de mjsica de tantos años atras, logra conectar diria que con el alma. Generando una emocion tan buena, una experiencia muy reconfortante, y tan sano y espiritual. Esta mujer tiene un don extraordinario.
